Family fun day to celebrate completion of Trans Pennine Trail improvements

On Saturday, June 26, Doncaster Council and Sustrans will be holding an event to celebrate improvements to the Trans Pennine Trail between Bentley Park and Shaftholme Lane.

The event will take place in Bentley Park, with a ribbon cutting kicking activities off at 10am at the newly improved access on the trail from Park Road.

There will be free activities for all the family such as cycling lessons, adapted bikes to try out, free bike maintenance, a tree ID walk, bird box painting, and more.

Attendees can also visit the Doncaster Council and Sustrans stall to give feedback on the improvements that have been made and let staff know what other improvements could be made.

The event is being held to celebrate the completion of 3km of improved surface, as well as access improvements on the Trans Pennine Trail, making it more accessible for everyone. The £400,000 project was delivered by Doncaster Council, and paid for by Sustrans, who secured funding from the Department for Transport.

Sarah Bradbury, Senior Project Officer at Sustrans, said: “The improvements that have been made make it easier for everyone to use this section of the trail; whether using a wheelchair, pushing a pushchair, on a bike, or riding a horse. We hope that the local communities will join us to celebrate this local asset and tell us what other improvements they’d like to see.”

Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “I am delighted we have completed these improvements to this section of the Trans Pennine Trail in Bentley. It is another important scheme in Doncaster which enables our residents and visitors to discover the wonderful green spaces and wildlife we have across the borough. It also encourages people to get active and supports our plans to Get Doncaster Moving.

“There are festivities lined up to celebrate the improvements on Saturday 26 June including lots of free, fun activities for the whole family to get involved in.

“We plan to continue to upgrade cycling and walking trails across Doncaster to inspire more active travel and make them available for all to enjoy.”
