Breaking Convention

Breakin’ Convention, the critically acclaimed international festival of hip hop dance theatre, comes to Cast, in Doncaster for the first time next week.

The hugely successful celebration of hip hop culture features performances from UK and international companies.

And for the Cast weekend, there will be a special lineup of South Yorkshire talent on stage.

DJs, dancers, demonstrations and workshops will also take over Cast in the ultimate celebration of hip hop culture, with free on the day activities from 12 noon to 3pm in Sir Nigel Gresley Square outside Cast – and a pre show event in Cast from 6pm. The 2014 line-up, supported by Dance Consortium, includes Olivier Award-nominated ILL-Abilities, an international group of b-boys who have overcome extraordinary challenges, helping to spread the message “No Excuses, No Limits” and redefine society’s view of disability.

Also featuring is Ukweli Roach, who presents a performance about temptation and vice.

Breakin’ Convention is at Cast on May 10.
