The owner of a Doncaster music venue achieved a lifetime ambition when he attracted one of his idols to play there.

Dominic Gibbs, owner of Diamond Live Lounge on Wood Street, welcomed Country and Western legend Raymond Froggatt to the stage.

He has been a fan since he was aged just 14 and first saw ‘Froggie’, who has written hit songs for stars like Cliff Richard and Gladys Knight.amed of.

Dominic said: “I first saw Raymond performing when I was holidaying with my family and his voice immediately had me hooked.

“I honestly felt like I had witnessed a superstar.

“After discovering who he was, I went to watch Raymond anytime I could with my family and he was always very humble with his fans.

“Then at 14 years old, I experienced something which will stay with me forever.”

Dominic was put on a coach to Birmingham and at the other end, to his surprise, he was greeted by Raymond and his band.

Dominic spent the next few weeks travelling with the band around the country, helping them load up, set up the stage and enjoying the experience of what it was like to be out on the road.

Since then, he has followed Froggie’s career closely.

And, when he opened the Diamond Live Lounge last year, Froggie was one of the acts he was determined to book to perform.

A venue spokesman said: “The call was made, Raymond remembered Dominic from 30 years ago and immediately made himself available for what turned out to be a very emotional gig for Dominic.”

Dominic said: “I promised myself I wouldn’t get emotional, but having Raymond on stage and my mum in the audience was just an extremely proud moment and just like the one I experienced 30 years ago, this moment will

stay with me forever.

“It was an extremely personal gig and the audience were treated to an absolute legend in my eyes.

“To come full circle and have one of my idols play at my own venue was just mind blowing and I would like to thank everyone who attended on the night.

“I would also personally like to thank Raymond and his band for a great show.

“Life is about creating memories and Raymond’s gig created an everlasting one.”
