Louise Christie, who is a senior sister for Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust and works on the neuro-rehabilitation ward, was diagnosed as having a heart murmur while pregnant with daughter Autumn 11 years ago.

The 40-year-old Warmsworth mum is now aiming to raise the cash for the British Heart Foundation.

She is taking part in a double marathon – but running it over two months. Louise decided to run double the distance of a normal marathon after her friend, who was originally going to run with her, had to pull out due to illness.

She is hoping to clock up 52.4 miles over the months of May and June and has so far notched up 29 miles by pounding the streets of Doncaster. Meanwhile, her 10-year-old son Ocean is riding his bike alongside his mum – and has nearly covered the same distance.

Louise said: “I have had years and years of echocardiograms, ECGs and 24 hour tapes - but every day I know my heart is safe under the care of the cardiologists. I’m doing this to say thank you to the British Heart Foundation for keeping people like me safe and informed about how to stay safe and well.” Sponsor Louise at Mymarathon.everydayhero.com/uk/TheCrispyOne/posts/640831
