Streetbeat’s ‘Rawthentic’ and ‘Eclipse’ crews both qualified for the European Street Dance Championships.

Teacher Kim Oakley said: “All of the dancers there were phenomenal and we were blow away by what we saw.

“An amazing experience for our young people; creating life-long memories. They had a tremendous time and I do feel that experiences such as these give them many transferable life-skills including independence, hard-work, determination, team-spirit and ambition to succeed. They also allow them to see other outstanding talent, make new friends and see new places.”

Rawthentic got through to the semi finals and Eclipse got through to the finals.

Kim added: “The final was tense and we were all ecstatic when Eclipse were placed 5th in Europe. Such an achievement for a small bunch of local young people.

“We are always looking for more young people to join us, we have received Arts Council Funding for this year and have been working with some amazing artists including The SoulMavericks; a prestigious international Breakin’ Crew, 2Faced dance Company from London, Zoo Nation’s Gavin Vincent plus many more. We were also selected as one of the top ten youth dance groups in the North of England in April to perform as part of Fresh, a national youth dance competition.

“We train people in all areas of urban dance from street and hip-hop, to house, lockin’ and breakin’ and everything in between. We also have a contemporary dance company ‘Soulz’ who have performed for Vue at the live stream of the West End’s Billy Elliott. In addition we have a musical theatre company teaching dance, drama and singing.

“Our older dancers are now receiving paid professional dance work.”

* The group has theour Urban Flava Festival coming up which is a day of urban dance at the Doncaster Dome. This is on June 5, noon-4.45pm. For more info please contact 01302 515409 or 07808 070300 alternatively email [email protected]
