THORNENSIANS ended their recent barren spell with a thrilling 25-11 home win over Aireborough.
After failing to score in the previous two outings, Thorne responded superbly with a brace of tries from Gareth Edwards and one apiece for Zac Holgate and Lee Linsdell which resulted in a much needed bonus point.
Aireborough pressured well from the off, wheeling the scrum and landing an early penalty.
But Thorne hit back with slick passing sending Edwards on a scintilating run to touch down.
A penalty for a high tackle was converted by promising stand off Olly Cox.
Thorne were in ferocious mood, piling pressure on with Robert Moffatt making telling charges while Kevin Bull put in a dominant line-out display.
Aireborough landed a second penalty to cut the gap to two before the break.
Despite facing the wind in the second half, Thorne raised their game with storming runs from prop Mike Roodt.
Further tries from Holgate and the returning Linsdell took Thorne 18-6 up.
A penalty to Aireborough ensured a tense finish but Edwards crowned the performance with another classy team try converted by Cox.
Skipper Adam Lloyd said: “We were delighted with the two training sessions this week, when we were able to get through the necessary preparation.
“Team spirit was great and the lads want to win for each other.
“I believe last week’s efforts will be the turning point for us.”
