High-riding Doncaster Knights must prepare themselves for an even tougher second half of the season, according to Michael Heaney.

Knights have exceeded many people’s expectations to lie second in the Championship at the halfway stage.

Last weekend they became the first team to win at Bedford Blues this season and extend their unbeaten run to seven games.

However, half-back Heaney has warned that Doncaster are now there to be shot at by their Championship rivals - who will also now be wiser to their strengths.

Heaney said: “No team is going to take us lightly now, which means that there will be no easy games.

“So we know we’ve got to continue to work hard.”

He added: “I don’t see why we can’t continue to challenge for top spot.

“We picked up a five-point win down at Bristol last month and we also recorded a good win at Bedford on Saturday.”

Knights turn their attention to the British & Irish Cup over the next two weekends, with home and away games against a Newport Gwent Dragons Select side.

They resume their top four push at home to play-off chasing rvials Nottingham on Boxing Day.
