Doncaster Knights remain 11 points clear of relegation favourites Plymouth Albion after both they and Moseley finished empty-handed on Saturday.

“It’s been a good weekend for us,” said Knights’ boss Clive Griffiths, whose side picked up a couple of points from their 13-13 Championship draw at third-placed London Scottish on Friday night.

It wasn’t all good news, however, as dual-registered centre Terrence Hepetema will miss the rest of the season after picking up a knee injury.

Better news for Knights is that Leicester centre George Catchpole will be available for this weekend’s home league game against Nottingham and he is also eligible for the B & I Cup final against Worcester.

Griffiths, who could also be without back-rower Alex Shaw this weekend after he also picked up a knock against Scottish, admits that the display of half-back Paul Roberts after replacing Hepetema would give him a selection headache this week.

Roberts has rarely featured in recent weeks after falling down the pecking order, but he grabbed the opportunity to press his claims with both hands and could have done enough to start against the Greens this weekend where victory could finally banish all relegation fears.

“Paul had not played for a while but he came in and did a great job for us. We threw him in at the deep but he never looked like drowning,” said Griffiths. He’ll certainly be in contention this weekend.”
