TWO Worksop Harriers are celebrating after finishing in the top three in a county competition.
Primary school pupils Ellie Wheatley and Lucy Harrop took part in the Notts Schools Cross Country series, which involved three events throughout the winter.
Whitwell Primary’s Ellie finished first overall, while Lucy, of Gateford, came third.
Richard Harrop, of Worksop Harriers, told the Guardian what the girls achieved was good news for the club.
He said: “It’s really good for us, the club are doing really well at the minute.”
“We’re all about fun, and the girls enjoy training and obviously working hard has paid off for them.”
ENTRY for this year’s Sheffield Half Marathon has closed in record time this year.
The race limit of 5,500 was reached at 5pm on Friday 18th February – more than 11 weeks ahead of the event.
Margaret Lilley, chair of the organising committee, said: “We are delighted that the race has attracted so much interest this year and entries have flooded in at a phenomenal rate.”
“I hope people who have missed out on securing a place aren’t too disappointed, but runners can still take part in the Fun Run where there are plenty of places.”
The event reaches its 30th race this year and organisers are campaigning for all runners to raise £30 for one of the 10 official local charities to surpass the £95,000 donated last year.
It takes place on 8th May at Don Valley Stadium from 9:30am.
