Thorne make painfully slow start in defeat at Frickley

THORNE Colliery failed to score a single run off the first eight overs of the match as they slipped to defeat at Frickley Colliery in Division Three.

And they had only posted 40 runs on the board by the time they had reached the half way point of their allotted overs.

But number five batsman Chris Broughton restored proceedings with an excellent unbeaten 91.

With help from the middle order Broughton ensured Thorne posted a respectable 174-6 at the close.

Opener Jon Hood made the most of being dropped twice to hit an unbeaten 61 when Frickley replied, helping them to 175-4.

Sykehouse enjoyed their afternoon much more as they cruised to a 96 run win over Sandal.

Richard Copley led the way with 60 as Sykehouse posted 219-7 from their overs.

And Copley was the star again in attack as he claimed 3-8 to help skittle Sandal for 123. Pete Sanders snapped up 4-49.

Fishlake failed to take the decisive wicket as they lost to Ackworth in Division One.

Lively knocks from Mark Davies with 65, Charlie Metcalfe 59 and Kevin Pearson 50 helped Fishlake record 231-5.

Ackworth went for the target and held on to reply with 233-9.

Hatfield Town lost their Division Two clash with Wombwell Main by six wickets.

An opening partnership of 78 from John Hughes and Andy Cutts got Town going but they slumped to 173 all out.
