BOXERS occasionally have to wait a while between their first and second professional fight – but not many wait five years!
Hatfield welterweight Charlie Thompson drew with Kristian Laight in his first fight in December 2005 and has not fought since.
But he will make his return to the ring tomorrow night at Doncaster Dome with renewed passion for the sport.
Thompson came through the ranks with good friend European bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell, boxing in the same amateur gym and turning pro at the same time.
And it is McDonnell’s success that has inspired Thompson to step back between the ropes.
Thompson takes on tough South African-born Bheki Moyo who has never won in 22 fights in Britain but has only been stopped four times.
Also on the bill is Thompson’s stablemate Gavin McDonnell, twin brother of Jamie.
McDonnell will also be taking part in his second professional bout following a convincing debut win over Plamen Kostadinov in December.
He returns tomorrow night to face Mansfield-based Latvian Pavels Senkovs.
