Rugby League: Toll Bar outclass struggling Queens

Doncaster Toll Bar continue to set the pace in the Pennine Amateur Rugby League Premier Division.

Ian Tattersall’s men routed once-mighty Queens 68-6 in a one-sided contest.

Man-of-the-match Tom Holt ran in a hat trick of tries against the Leeds-based side who gave the Dons a run for their money in an infamous Rugby League Challenge Cup tie at the Keepmoat Stadium a few years ago.

Gaz Carey also posted a hat trick with Alex Palmer, Scott Smith, Jordan King, Shaun Roberts, Shaun Carey, Zac Braham and Kieran Cross also touching down for the home side. Joe Barron converted eight of the tries.

“It was a really good performance,” said coach Tattersall.

“We scored some great tries and it was good to see us playing with a smile on our faces again.

“Defensively we were really strong and never really looked like conceding other than an interception try and full-back Tom Holt was outstanding for us.

“We’ve obviously got to be realistic because Queens weren’t at their best - they’re struggling for players at the moment - and I’m certain the return trip will be much tougher.

“But we are happy with the result and the performance got us all buzzing again ready for a tough trip to Hull this weekend to play Reckitts in the last eight of the Yorkshire Cup.”

Completing another successful weekend for the club was their A team’s 8-4 win at joint-Division Four East leaders East Leeds.

Dave Cowell and Nathan Brown shared their two tries with Gav Millward named man of the match.
