Racing returns to Chelmsford City tomorrow where Juncart catches the eye in the feature totepool Racings Biggest Supporter Handicap.

The track has been closed for a while as the all-weather surface has been re-waxed to stop the fierce kick-back which jockeys were reporting and after positive trials last week, the signs are good.

Juncart looked a progressive sprinter last season for Kevin Ryan when he won a Ayr maiden on his fourth start having shaped with promise at Haydock and Catterick before that.

There were signs of better to come, though, when he stepped into handicap company at Haydock and comfortably defied a mark of 78.

Behind him that day were several horses who have subsequently gone on to hold their own off marks in the mid-80s, so it was a decent race he won.

How good Juncart could be, though, is still up in the air as he has only run once since and left Ryan for William Haggas.

That is obviously not a negative, and Haggas thought enough of him to let him start his season off in the Ralph Raper Trophy at York, a key early-season sprint for three-year-olds.

He was sent off favourite and was ridden by Ryan Moore so big things were expected but he failed to turn up, trailing in 13th.

There is a chance the 8lb rise has caught him out but he has been given plenty of time to recover and Haggas has lowered his sights for this.

There is even the chance of an across-the-card double for Haggas as Zaaneh should take all the beating in Wetherby’s Introducing The Racing UK Day Pass Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.

Having run green in the early stages on her debut, she stayed on nicely to finish second behind a David O’Meara newcomer, suggesting a maiden win could be a formality.
