Knife Edge can take a hike in class in his stride as he tackles the AR Legal Collections Houghton Conditions Stakes, the feature event on two-year-old day at Newmarket.

With only one of the eight races not confined to juveniles, there is always an element of guesswork as we reach the end of the season with plenty of unknown types squeezing in a run before winter sets in.

Knife Edge made his racecourse bow last month, turning out in a seven-furlong maiden at Ascot where he picked up readily and scored in comfortable fashion by three-quarters of length.

The Zoffany colt seemed to enjoy the cut in the ground and while the form is perhaps not the strongest, the second has come out and won subsequently so it is sound enough.

Marco Botti’s charge should again have conditions in his favour and this can prove a nice stepping stone for the Coolmore-owned colt.

Rio’s Cliffs looked likely to go on to further glory when winning at Beverley and the Racing FX Online Nursery Handicap provides an excellent opportunity.

Martyn Meade’s filly finally came good at the fourth time of asking on the Westwood and while it was merely ordinary maiden form, the second, Jordan Sport, is well regarded and hails from an excellent family.

Rio’s Cliffs kept on strongly over just short of a mile so the switch to nine furlongs should be well within her compass, particularly as the handicapper has not been too harsh in awarding an opening mark of 79.

Replenish suffered a seven-length battering when last seen but can fair much better in the 32Red Nursery Handicap at Kempton.

Well beaten on his racecourse bow behind Classic hopeful Emotionless back in August, Replenish then went down by just a length at Haydock early the following month.

He appeared to have improved for the a mile that day so it was little wonder James Fanshawe returned to the same track and trip for his most recent outing.

However, he bumped into a decent type in Ormito, with the run at least serving the purpose of securing him a handicap mark.

He lines up off 80 here and the son of Le Havre looks capable off that kind of perch, with Fanshawe’s string in good heart.

Murad Khan can make a winning debut in the first division of the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes, while Mustashry, who is related to the admirable Maraahel, can score at the first time of asking in division two of the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.

Calipto switches to fences this term and can make an instant impact in the Southampton Makes More Sense Beginners’ Chase at Fontwell.

Lady Of Longstone struck gold at Worcester last week and can complete a quickfire course double in the Says No 1 Wins Mares’ Handicap Hurdle.
