THE pick of the Moorends-Thorne Marauders crop have been selected to line up at the Keepmoat Stadium this weekend as part of Doncaster’s preparations for the new Championship One campaign.
Craig Hookway (stand off), Ryan Rafferty (scrum half), Danny Hornsby (hooker), Wayne Rafferty (second row) and Mark Roach have all been chosed for a Doncaster Select side – made up of the town’s best amateurs – to take on the Dons on Sunday at 3pm.
And, according to Dons boss Tony Miller, the players could be invited to train with the professional outfit.
He said: “This game is something I’ve been pushing for for the last couple of years.
“It’s good opportunity to build a few bridges and if any of the amateur lads impress we’ll not be shy of inviting them down to train with us.
“I expect they’ll come at us with a lot of enthusiasm for the first 20 minutes - we have to cope with that and then impose our game on them.”
Moorends saw their Yorkshire League Division Two promotion hopes hit when they were beaten 24-16 at home to York Acorn A last weekend.
