Marauders in first defeat thanks to on-song Jack Johnson

MOORENDS Thorne Marauders slipped to their first defeat of the season as they lost out 36-18 to Rugby League Conference Yorkshire Premier East leaders Scarborough Pirates.

The Marauders were in a good position but saw their lead overturned, largely thanks to hat trick hero Jack Johnson.

Moorends struck first blood when Armstrong skipped through a massive gap with Sean Roberts converting.

And after Jack Johnson hit back for Scarborough, Brandon Neill and Roberts both crossed the line with the latter converting his own score to take them into a 18-4 lead.

But it was as good as it got for Moorends as Scarborough clawed their way back into contention.

Oliver Battye, Mike Picken and Paul Taylor all scored to level the match before the break.

The second half started with end to end rugby but the Pirates eventually asserted their control.

Johnson scored twice to seal his hat trick with Dave Douthwaite and Billy Parker also touching down.
