Marauders beaten in tough cup test

MOORENDS-Thorne Marauders battled brilliantly but fell to defeat in their devilishly difficult National Cup clash with Halifax side Elland.

The Marauders made a blistering start against the National Conference side but slipped to a 24-12 defeat.

Elland opened the scoring against the run of play but Moorends hit back on 25 minutes when Craig Hookway followed his own kick through to score.

Moorends were left standing awaiting a knock on decision that would never come as Elland raced clear to score and open up a 16-4 lead before the break.

Good hands five minutes into the second half saw Blanchard score in the corner on his return from a broken arm.

When Carver came onto a short ball from Hookway to score, a cup upset looked on the cards with the tide firmly in Moorends’ favour.

Pushing for the leveller, the Marauders were caught offside for the first time and Elland added the penalty before settling the tie with a converted try.
