Hockey success

EPWORTH Ladies have made an excellent and determined start by bringing home silverware from their first two pre-season tournaments over the last two weekends.

The first tournament was at the official launch of the Astroturf Pitch at the Tata Steel Gala Day in Scunthorpe on September 4.

Epworth stormed their way through their games to win the tournament despite Jennifer Hickson sustaining an injury to her face needing hospital treatment.

The Isle squad worked and played well as a team and their keeper Lisa Teanby kept a clean sheet for the whole of the tournament.

The second was at Hull on Sunday September 11. Epworth started off steady and struggled in the early games, having to share the role of keeper out among the team.

Over the games Epworth found their rhythm and secured a place in the final of the plate by winning the semi 5-0 and the final 3-0, with the captain April Butterick racking up a total of nine goals throughout the day.

The team are away at their last pre-season tournament on Sunday at Rotherham and will be trying to get a hat-trick by winning three out of three.

Epworth are starting their 11+ training sessions again and invite anyone who is interested in developing their hockey skills to join them on a Tuesday evening between 6.15-7.15 pm at the Epworth Leisure Centre, all abilities welcome.
