Dons head coach Gary Thornton will be checking on loose-forward Jason Muranka and powerhouse prop Feka Paleaaesina at tonight’s training session at Cantley Park.

Muranka suffered a first half rib injury during Sunday’s 28-28 League One draw against top-eight rivals London Skolars, and Paleaaesina came off midway through the second half with an Achilles tendon problem.

With Jamie Thackray currently suspended and the injury-plagued Mason Tonks having decided to take a break from the game, Thornton will be hoping for good news on both players.

He will also be reflecting on a typical patchy performance by his charges in Sunday’s game.

“I wanted us to build on our second half performance in the Challenge Cup defeat at Leeds and I thought we played some good stuff in the first half and came in leading 20-4,” he told The Star.

“But we just couldn’t get any momentum going in the second half and it didn’t help that the referee absolutely killed us.

“To be fair to them I thought they played really well in the second half and that’s probably the best London team I’ve seen. Their pack was very physical and strong and they kept going for the full 80 minutes which I knew they would.

“But we should have been good enough to defend the 28-10 lead we had built up early in the second half and the boys were all disappointed and we’ll be reflecting on what went wrong tonight.

“It didn’t help that we bombed clear-cut scoring chances in both halves. We also missed that bit of direction from the pivots, especially in the second half, and we also missed the creative spark that the injured Kieran Cross has brought to the team this year.”
