Joe Pickets has been re-united with Gary Thornton to become Doncaster’s 27th confirmed signing for 2016.

The 25-year-old forward played under Thornton at York City Knights.

He joins the Dons after a year playing rugby union in Australia.

Pickets is a product of Castleford Tigers’ youth system and spent time playing in League One for Hunslet Hawks.

Dons head coach Thornton said: “Once I found out about Joe’s availability I was keen to bring him to the club.

“He has experience of playing at this level and I’ve previously worked with him in the past, so I know what he can bring to the table.

“Joe will add even more competition for places in 2016 and it gives us even more squad depth and strength.”

n Tickets are now on sale for the Dons’ pre-season programme.

Thornton’s new-look squad kick off their preparations for the new campaign by welcoming Super League side Hull FC to the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday, January 17.

They will host League One rivals Oxford RL on January 24 before facing last year’s treble winners Leeds Rhinos on February 7.

Tickets are priced adults £10, concessions £8 and juniors £2.

Doncaster begin their 2016 League One campaign at home to University of Gloucestershire All Golds on March 6.
