A Doncaster head running coach clinched first place and a course record in this year’s gruelling Epworth Triathlon, writes Michael Barnett.
The second running of the competition saw 150 athletes make a splash in the 400m swim at Epworth Leisure Centre before a 20km cycle race followed by a 5km run around the Isle town.
The event marked the first competition for Doncaster Triathlon Club, who only formed last month, as their head coach Jonathan Frary raced ahead of the competition to finish first in an impressive time of 55:25.
He was followed by team-mates Tom Morris (55:48) and Michael Chadwick (57:04) who finished second and third respectively.
The club also had several other podium finishes as Katie Webster finished first in the female 20-39 category and Isle-based Jayne Baldwin came top in the female 40-49 category.
Tom Bunkle and Georgina Howard Weston, enjoying her first triathlon, also clinched second and third in the u20 categories.
Frary said: “It was a great first day out racing for the club with some outstanding results, plenty of celebration for many of our members as this was their first triathlon. It’s fair to say they’re hooked.”
The event was organised by Race Hard Events.
