MATCH REPORT: Leeds Carnegie 42 Doncaster Knights 7

THE Knights’ winless run was stretched to 16 matches as their first Yorkshire derby of the season descended into a horror show at Headingley.

A red card for Adam Kettle plus yellows for Dougie Flockhart and Rhys Buckley hampered the Doncaster cause but they were totally outplayed by their hosts who hardly had to get out of first gear.

The start could not have been much worse for the Knights as Leeds took the lead inside the opening minute.

When full back Dante Mama missed a tackle on 40m, there was little cover remaining for the Knights allowing Jamel Chisholm a clear run to the line on the wing.

Joe Ford converted and also slotted over a penalty ten minutes later as the hosts controlled the opening stages.

Matters got worse for Doncaster when Flockhart was sinbinned for a high tackle as he chased down his own kick.

And then worse still as Adam Kettle was sent off for an alleged dump tackle in the ruck with Ford landing the subsequent penalty.

There was little reaction to the incident from either side but for a look of shock from Kettle when referee Greg Macdonald flashed the red.

The atmosphere became a little nasty and Leeds’ Calum Green and Knights forward Buckley were sinbinned for their part in a mass melee.

Leeds exploited the numbers advantage ruthlessly and there was little resistance when Sam Lockwood barged over eight minutes from the break.

And there was even less in stoppage time as Leeds moved the ball quickly out of a scrum on 40m with Curtis Wilson taking possession out wide and running through to score, Ford converting.

The Knights shored up much better after the break and managed to enjoy possession for spells.

One such passage of play saw skipper Challinor barge over from five minutes to get the Knights off the mark, Jamie Lennard converting.

But there was no stopping the hosts.

Christian Georgiou took possession five metres from his own line and a near unchallenged breakaway was completed by Wilson.

Leeds made a scrum close to the line count with Lockwood barging over for his second.

And Georgiou rounded things off seven minutes from time as he squeezed over.

The Knights head into the two week Championship break for British and Irish Cup matches with only a solitary draw to show for their efforts so far this season.
