Paul Dickov offered the Rovers fans an apology following Doncaster’s dour display in Walsall.

Rovers were hit by former midfielder James Baxendale who struck in first half injury time before strikes from Tom Bradshaw and Anthony Forde condemned Dickov’s men to a poor result on an otherwise strong away record as Dean Smith’s side rallied at Banks’s Stadium.

“If you don’t run harder, worker harder, do the basics right in football, you’re going to get beat and Walsall did all of that better than us,” said the Scotsman.

“That’s the most disappointing thing, the only thing I can take out of today is I’d like to apologise to our fans, I’d like to apologise to them because they don’t deserve that.”
