Jade Lorton-Radburn says a debut goal was the icing on the cake as she helped Doncaster Rovers Belles to an emphatic FA WSL 2 win over Watford.
It was always going to be a tough game for Watford and it became even harder after four minutes when Sue Smith netted from a free kick.
Lorton-Radburn then bagged a goal on her first appearance for the club as she rose high 15 minutes later to put a towering header past Shayla Burgess.
Belles’ top scorer Courtney Sweetman-Kirk then scored from close range after keeper Burgess spilled Smith’s cross and Nicole Pepper failed to clear.
The striker then gave Donny a four-goal lead to take into the break with a powerful effort from a narrow angle before Bethany England wrapped up the win.
“There’s good competition for places across the field now and we’ve just got to keep working hard and give everything and push on from there,” said Lorton-Radburn.
“I really enjoyed playing and I guess getting a goal on my debut kind of topped that off as well.
“In this league, whoever’s at the bottom of the league or at the top, there’s teams that you can slip up against.
“You can’t lower your game and you have to keep working as you’d play against the top teams in the league. That’s what we went out and did and we got the result we wanted.
“The atmosphere around the club is great, they’re setting out to get promoted this year, and every person throughout the squad wants to work hard for that to happen.”
It was a disappointing day all around for Watford as their poor run in the FA Women’s Super League with BT Sport continues - though boss John Salomon is optimistic for the future.
“We had a game plan but when you concede a goal inside four minutes it’s difficult but we had four or five players who made their debuts and it’s a real young squad,” he said.
“That’s where we’re at as a club: we’re trying to bring through young players and give them opportunities, and it’s tough.
“The second half performance was a lot better and we started to ask a few more questions towards the end but the main thing at that point was keeping them out.
