Recent weeks have seen Sadlier switch to a wide right role, away from the left side on which he typically operated for much of the season.

“Since I was young I played both,” the 25-year-old said.

“I’ve played in the 10 and up front as well. Playing up front this season was new to me.

“I don’t mind. Wherever I am I just like to get the ball and do what I want to do.

“Right or left? I prefer the left but I can play on the right too.”

Sadlier demonstrates the attributes of a modern wide player - one that will cut inside with the aim of pushing directly towards goal.

It is for this reason perhaps why he prefers the left side, cutting in onto a stronger right foot. But with his left foot being almost as strong, he is happy to show what he can do on the right.

“For a lot of right footed players, wingers, I think you find that a lot of them like playing on the left because they feel they can come inside more,” he said.

“Balance and strength is different.

“For lads that are quick, they probably want to go on the right because they can push and run.

“That isn’t what I do but I can do it at times.

“The left is my favourite position but I know I can play out right as well.

“The last few I’ve played on the right I suppose.

“It’s something the gaffer is doing now. He wants me to play in different positions but not just play there, be effective there too.

“I’m enjoying it.”

The versatility shown by Sadlier is replicated through much of the squad.

And the forward believes the increased competition for places following January arrivals has driven individuals on to perform even better.

“Niall Ennis can play on the left, Jon Taylor can play either side,” Sadlier said.

“It’s a good thing to have for the lads that have played in those positions that now they’ve got competition as well because I think if you’ve got that, it’s good.

“You work hard any way and put the work in on the training pitch but when you’ve got competition it gives you that one per cent more where you can be more effective.”
