Doncaster were involved in the unlikeliest of winning bets this weekend, with one Sky Bet punter landing £6,859 from a £1 stake thanks to Rovers’ 3-2 win over Chesterfield.
The Sky Bet League One sides were part of an audacious ‘both teams to score in both halves’ treble, along with Fleetwood’s 3-3 draw with Bristol City and Accrington’s 5-4 win at Northampton.
While there were plenty of other high-scoring affairs around the Sky Bet Football League, those were the only three matches to see both sides netting in both halves.
With Rovers winless in six months at the Keepmoat Stadium and the Spireites unbeaten in four, the hosts went into the game as 9/5 outsiders, while they were 33/1 to win by the eventual scoreline.
A third win of the season will have eased any early fears of back-to-back relegations, although Paul Dickov’s men remain shorter odds to go down (7/1) than they are for an immediate return for the Championship (9/1).
Elsewhere, the two Sheffield clubs experienced contrasting fortunes, with Wednesday climbing into the Championship play-offs with a 1-0 win over Reading, while the Blades were thumped 5-2 by Swindon in League One.
Sky Bet remain unconvinced by the Owls’ Premier League credentials, making them 9/1 for promotion, while their rivals have been pushed out from 9/2 to 7/1 to win League 1 and 7/4 to 2/1 to go up.
Barnsley also endured defeat, going down 2-1 at struggling Port Vale, prompting their League One# promotion odds to drift from 11/2 to 13/2.
Meanwhile, Rotherham remain 11/4 fourth favourites for relegation in the Championship after playing out a 1-1 draw with Charlton.
