High-flying Harworth Colliery got 2016 off to a winning start with a 7-2 win over lowly Dinnington Town.

Dinnington, who had beaten Thorne Colliery (Danny Bulman) 3-1 in midweek to claim their first win of the season, took an early lead at Scrooby Road to raise the prospect of back-to-back wins.

But Harworth quickly grabbed the momentum and with Blake Freeman notching a hat trick, and Matty Robinson also netting, they led 4-1 at the break.

Josh Dickinson restored Harworth’s three-goal lead after Town had grabbed a second before he and Marley Alder scored late goals to complete the scoring.

Fifth-placed Askern lost 2-0 away to defending champions Bilsthorpe who picked up a second successive home win.

Brodsworth Welfare, for whom Josh Dodds and Josh Bowkett shared out their consolation goals, lost 5-2 away at Dronfield Town Reserves in midweek.

n Denaby United beat their Academy side 5-1 in their Dawson & Burgess Doncaster & District FA Cup first round tie.

Denaby Main also made progress in the competition following their 9-3 win over Yorkshire Main.

Armthorpe Markham Main scored five without reply at home to Loaded Sports.

Balby Recreation won 2-1 at Doncaster Town.

Dunscroft United beat visiting Brodsworth Welfare 3-1 and Rossington Main posted a 10-2 win at FC Graceholme.
