Brodsworth Welfare and Mexborough MW have both scooped grants of almost £50,000 from Sport England.

The grants are part of a £1.6 million spend on 32 sports projects across Yorkshire as part of the governing body’s Inspired Facilities Olympic and Paralympic legacy fund.

Brodsworth were awarded £42,500 and have announced plans to renovate the changing rooms at Welfare Road.

James Irwin, Brodsworth Welfare’s club development officer, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our premises to match the quality of our football teams and coaches.

“It is the cornerstone of our strategy to have an outstanding club for the 2012 Olympics’ legacy.

“Our facility, although being dilapidated at present, is looked after well by a small band of volunteers. This is a great reward for everyone’s hard work looking after the grounds and its facilities.

“The award will make our facility one of the best in Doncaster if not South Yorkshire.

“With the modernisation we should certainly be able to attract more users to the club in the forthcoming years sustaining the club for many years to come.”

Mexborough, meanwhile, also scooped £48,200 to improve facilities at Hampden Road.
