Grassroots: Sunday Alliance League round-up

Canal Tavern opened up a two-point lead at the top of the Doncaster Sunday Alliance League after taming Leger Lions.

Darren Fell (2) and Kirk Frost netted in the 4-1 win.

Glasshouse, who started the day level on points but second on goal difference, lost ground when being held to a 2-2 draw by Auckley, whose goals were supplied by Matt Holmes and Rob Wilson.

Bentley Top Club stayed in touch with the top two thanks to a 1-0 win at Toll Bar.

Eden Grove climbed into the top four on the back of a 3-2 win at bottom club Stainforth.

Craig Housely bagged a brace for the winners with Peter Walmsley also chipping in. Trev Hindson and Ryan Davies shared out the Stainforth goals.

Defending champions Sprotbrough, who lost both opening games, are up to fifth spot after receiving a walkover against Graceholme – who were their main rivals last season.

Athletico Tap Maker, another of last season’s top clubs, are also in unfamiliar territory in the bottom four. They suffered their second defeat in four starts when being beaten 2-0 at Wheatsheaf, for whom Daniel McNeil and Ricky Temparol netted,

Armthorpe Albion continue to set the pace at the top of the Championship after stopping Tank in their tracks when dishing out an 8-2 beating.

Rob Watson led the way with a hat-trick and there were goals for Lee Drobac, Karl Britcliff and Cijay Takremsheh. John Wooldridge and Stephen Phillips shared out the Tank consolation goals.

Bullcroft Sports & Social, for whom Joe Fisher netted, head the chasing group on goal difference, after losing their 100 per cent record after going down at The Vault. Sam Weston and Luke Newton shared the winning goals.

Rossington United dropped from second to fourth after going down 8-5 away at Carpenters Arms, now up to third.

A Ross Ebbage hat-trick helped Willaspoons beat Lonsdale by the odd goal in seven. Daniel Smith also chipped in for the winners.

Winning Post, who had to settle for a Kieran Ferguson consolation, stay top of Division One despite ending a five-match winning start when going down 2-1 at home to Bessacarr, who now head the chasing group.

Armthorpe Village had to settle for consolation goals by Gavin Page and Damien Foster in an 8-2 defeat at FC Dunscroft.

Division Two leaders FC Wadworth also held on to pole position despite losing 3-2 at Jakes Bar Rangers.
