Reece Wabara is poised to join Rangers.

The 23-year-old right back is training with the Scottish giants this week with a view to a permanent deal.

Wabara is a free agent after quitting Doncaster at the end of last season in search of a new challenge.

The former Manchester City academy graduate’s father is the half-brother of former Ibrox hero Mark Walters.

A move to Scotland would see Wabara follow in the footsteps of another former Rovers right back Paul Quinn, who moved from Ross County to Aberdeen earlier this month.

Wabara, meanwhile, has received a glowing reference from his former Rovers teammate and ex-Ger Dean Furman.

“He’s a very exciting player and Rangers fans would love him,” Furman told the Daily Record.

“I’m not at all surprised he has gone up there because I know the club very well and I’ve told him all about it.

“Reece is very attack-minded and he’s very much in the mould of Barcelona full-back Dani Alves because he’s very quick and loves to get forward.

“Defensively he’s strong too.

“He has lovely ability, loves to beat a man and puts good deliveries into the box.

“He did well for Doncaster and has high ambitions. I’m sure he will want to play in the Premier League and I’m sure he can.”

Rangers, who lost to Motherwell in last season’s play-off, are favourites to win the 2015/16 Scottish Championship.
