Epworth on goal spree

THE Isle side travelled to Gainsborough and recorded their second comfortable win of the season against Midtown.

An early corner from the visitors was cleared before Ethan Robinson played a lovely ball into the path of Oliver Munday whose shot was saved.

A clumsy tackle in the home box was punished when George Wigham stepped up to convert the resultant penalty and give Epworth an early 1-0 lead.

Robinson took the ball up the wing and his cross was cleared for a corner and from the subsequent set piece Wigham headed the ball home to make it 2-0.

This soon became 3-0 after Carrington Osgood struck an outstanding shot which gave the keeper no chance.

It wasn’t long before Robinson added his name to the scoresheet, taking the ball around three defenders before burying a left foot shot for 4-0.

Midtown’s only real effort on goal was a free kick parried away by Brad Rusling for a corner which was subsequently cleared.

Jordan Edwards scored his second goal in two games to make it 5-0 and Algar scored Epworth’s sixth of the half when he took the ball past the keeper and found the bottom corner.

The second half began with Midtown having an early shot saved by Rusling and later Harry Higgins finished off a lovely passing move with a strike which was unlucky to veer wide.

The hosts closed Epworth down much better fter the break but Munday still had a shot cleared for a corner, which was struck into the side netting, and Algar had one attempt blocked by the keeper.

A seventh goal came with a text book finish from Higgins who placed the ball neatly past the beleagured away stopper.

And in the final minute of the match Owen Petch scored a goal which was controversially ruled offside, keeping the final score at 7-0.

Man of the match: Harry Higgins.
