Doncaster Rovers: We didn't deserve win insists Ferguson

Darren Ferguson believes it would have been unjust if his Rovers side took all three points from their thrilling clash with Burton Albion.

Rovers looked to have won the game when Nathan Tyson scored from the spot seven minutes from time only for Mark Duffy to equalise for the League One leaders.

"Unfortunately we lost a late goal which cost us two points," Ferguson said.

"But I feel we were lucky to get one, never mind three with the way the game went.

"If you look at the context of the game over the 94 minutes then it's a good point.

"But if you look at it that you're ahead in the last few minutes, it's two points dropped.

"I feel we didn't deserve anything more than a point."

Andy Williams gave Rovers a fourth minute lead before two goals from Calum Butcher turned the game on its head. Paul Keegan equalised from a free kick before the grandstand finish.

Ferguson said: "Credit to my players again. They've got that battling quality about them and a never say die attitude and it's a fantastic trait to have.

"I'm delighted with the character.

"We were miles away from the standards I expect and the players know that.

"You can carry two or three but we carried more than that today.

"It happens in football, you can't always play how you want to play.

"But we managed to get something out of the game and it's really when get something when you don't play to anywhere near your maximum, especially against a team who I believe is the best team we've faced since I came to Doncaster."

Ferguson confirmed James Coppinger was withdrawn late in the game with cramp.
