Paul Dickov says his actions will speak louder than words when it comes to Rovers’ retained list.

The future of several senior players and the majority of the club’s younger squad members hang in the balance.

Skipper Rob Jones, Kyle Bennett, Dean Furman, Theo Robinson, Reece Wabara and Stephen Bywater are among those out of contract this summer.

Jamie McCombe and Abdul Razak played no part in Rovers’ final game of the season against Scunthorpe - suggesting they have already been told to find a new club.

Robinson was not involved against the side he helped keep in League One but watched the game from the press box.

Dickov said: “We’ll be sitting down with the players [this week] and letting them know where we’re going and what I want to do.

“The ones who I want to keep and the contracted ones will know what the ambitions are for next year.

“Unfortunately there’s going to be casualties within that.

“There’ll be some tough decisions because I get on very well with my players, but at the same time some of the performances we’ve had this year haven’t been good enough.

“I take responsibility for that but sometimes when it comes to retained lists and offering contracts out actions speak louder than words.”

Nathan Tyson’s existing one-year deal is also due to expire this summer although the forward has activated a clause which would grant him a second year should he wish to stay.
