Cedric Evina says Doncaster Rovers will take confidence from their spirited display against Stoke City into their clash with League One high-flyers Gillingham.
Rovers came within a whisker of taking the Premier League side to a replay - which their determined performance probably deserved.
Despite disappointment with the result, Evina says Rovers’ squad should be in a good place mentally for the visit of the second-placed Gills on Saturday.
“We must take confidence from the performance,” said Evina.
“I thought it was a really good performance. The boys did the club proud. We went up against them and matched them for effort.
“I thought we had the better of the chances and we kept them at bay for long periods of the game. On another day we could’ve scored three or four.
“Looking ahead to Gillingham, which is a very big game for us, we can take that performance into the game.
“There’s a buzz around the place at the moment,” he added. “We’re enjoying a good run of form.”
Evina admitted there was an extra determination on Saturday to make up for the home defeat to Scunthorpe - and also impress a near sell-out crowd.
“We were really disappointed to lose on Boxing Day in a derby game,” he said.
“The gaffer gave us a target. He wanted nine points from the Christmas period. We got six which isn’t too bad. We’re trying to climb the league and be where we feel like we are supposed to be.
“It was incredible,” he added on the support. “The fans kept us going.
“If we can get as many fans as we can every game, we’ll hopefully be giving them performances like that every week.”
