Paul Dickov has hinted he is hopeful of signing a striker on loan to help fire Doncaster Rovers towards the top six.
Rovers are the joint lowest scorers in the top half of League One and Tuesday night’s stalemate with Notts County was the seventh time this season they have failed to score at home.
Dickov has backed frontmen Theo Robinson, Nathan Tyson and Curtis Main and says he will not add to his squad for the sake of it.
But he also says tenth-placed Rovers ‘know what they need’ if they are to continue their ascent up the table.
“We’re out there looking and we’re talking to people,” said Dickov.
“We know what we need.
“We’ll see what we can do before Chesterfield. Hopefully we’ll be able to do something.
“Like every other manager I speak to, everybody’s looking for a striker - but they’re all looking for someone who can score goals.
“When you speak to clubs they want to keep their goalscorers, so it’s not as easy getting people as you might think.
“The players that you would like to bring in, clubs don’t want to let go.”
He added: “It would be more than likely a loan deal. There’s one or two things we’re looking at.
“We were 95 per cent down the road with a deal the other week but we couldn’t get it over the line.
“Whether we will bring someone in, I don’t know. You’re in the hands of other clubs, and we’re not just going to bring people in for the sake of it.
“The dynamics of the group are good and it’s important we keep that.”
