Doncaster Rovers: We can still be better says Paul Dickov

Rovers may be heading into their final friendly on the back of victory over a Premier League outfit but boss Paul Dickov is convinced they can do better.

Dickov’s men host Wolverhampton Wanderers today on the back of a 2-0 win over Sunderland in midweek.

And while impressed with his side’s pre-season form – which has also produced home draws with Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough – Dickov wants to see more improvement, particularly going forward.

“We want to work a bit more on our forward play because in flashes we’ve done it,” Dickov told the Star.

“Without the ball we’ve been superb so we need to keep that level of performance but I’ll be looking, against another top team, for us to be better on the ball than what we have been.

“We’ve been excellent at times but I think we can be better.

“And even when we’re fantastic, I want us to be better.”

New signing Dany N’Guessan looks set to make his first appearance in Rovers colours this afternoon.

And there could be a raft of returning players after Nathan Tyson, Curtis Main, Andy Williams, Richard Chaplow, Mitchell Lund, Gary MacKenzie and Jack McKay all sat out Wednesday’s win over Sunderland.

Dickov is confident that he will have a fully fit squad at his disposal in time for the first game of the season against Bury next weekend.

Dickov said: “Hopefully we’ll have a few of the injured lads back and get some minutes into them.

“We’ve had back to back clean sheets at home over the past week and we want to make it three in a row.

“Wolves are a very good team but we’ve just played three very good teams and shown that we’re capable of doing it.”
