Paul Dickov will resist the urge to wield the axe for tonight’s Capital One Cup second round tie with Ipswich Town.
The Scot held clear-the-air talks with his players after Saturday’s woeful 3-0 defeat at Port Vale.
And the majority of those who started at Vale Park will be given the opportunity to right their wrongs against the early leaders of the Championship.
“One of the main reasons we got them in on Sunday was to get Saturday out of our system as quickly as we could,” said Dickov.
“There’s a determination, from the meeting we had and the training we’ve had since, to go out there and put it right.
“Nobody likes to be beaten in the manner we were on Saturday but sometimes it’s better to get that manner of defeat out of the way early doors - and then everyone knows one hundred per cent where they stand. It lets everybody know if you’re not at it, then you’ll be in trouble.”
With the games continuing to come thick and fast there might have been a temptation to rest key men tonight but Dickov says he has complete faith in the fitness levels of his players.
He said: “We can only deal with what’s in front of us and Ipswich is the next game. With the sort of injuries we’ve got at the minute, the squad’s picking itself really.
“So there might be one or two changes but no more than that.
“You’ve got to deal with the schedule and I believe the lads are fit enough to deal with it. We’d like to get one or two back from injury just to bolster the squad a little bit, but it is what it is.
“We know we’re Saturday Tuesday Saturday Tuesday again so mentally we need to get our heads around that and make sure we put the performances in.”
