Uche Ikpeazu says the lure of a promotion push with Rovers was too good to turn down.

The striker arrived at the Keepmoat on Wednesday, on loan from Watford until the end of the season.

With Rovers current crop of forwards struggling to find the net on a regular basis, the pressure will be on the 19-year-old to chip in with his fair share of goals to help a potential rise up the table.

And Ikpeazu is confident he can do just that.

“The chance of promotion was one of the reasons I came here,” he said.

“They’re only two points off the play-offs with a few games in hand and I believe now that I’m here I can help push for promotion.

“It’s quite well developed for a League One side, the stadium is massive and the facilities are really impressive.

“Obviously I’m excited to join such a massive club; I just want to get going really. It’s good to be here, I can’t wait for the off.

“I’m powerful and quite quick and I score goals,” Ikpeazu added.

“As a striker you want to score goals.

“My fitness level is quite good because I’ve played a few games this season and I’m getting fitter and fitter and it’s important that I continue to play games.”

On the announcement of Ikpeazu’s arrival, Rovers said the loan deal was with a view to a permanent switch in the summer.

However Watford head coach Slavisa Jokanovic says he is keen to assess the striker at the end of the season before making any decision on his future.

Jokanovic said: ““In pre-season you can see young players and [assess if they can] help us in the future. The future could be in months or it could be in years.”
