Doncaster Rovers are today expected to complete the signing of a defender on loan.
Boss Darren Ferguson confirmed he would be moving to finalise a loan deal at the start of this week in order to add much-needed cover for his defensive ranks.
“Hopefully the new player will be in on Monday,” he said.
“There’s never a guarantee but we’re pretty much over the line with someone.”
Rovers are short of defensive cover with Gary MacKenzie and Rob Jones continuing their respective recoveries from injury.
MacKenzie was set to be named among the substitutes on Saturday but suffered a reoccurrence of his thigh problem on Friday.
And Rovers will be without another centre half Luke McCullough for Saturday’s trip to Blackpool as he joins up with Northern Ireland for the friendlies with France and Ukraine.
Jones will continue his recovery with game time for the development squad on Tuesday,
Ferguson also confirmed it would be his final foray into the loan market before January with the new signing becoming the fifth loanee in the Rovers squad alongside Conor Grant, Felipe Mattioni, Keshi Anderson and Cameron Stewart.
Clubs are permitted to name a maximum of five loan players in any matchday squad.
The emergency loan window closes on November 26 and Ferguson said he would be looking to send some of the club’s younger players out on loan for some much-needed senior match experience.
He said: “We’re going to try and get the younger lads out on loan.
“It’s important they get games because some of them have not had enough games.”
