Full steam ahead.
Those are the words of John Ryan as he prepares to, once again, assume control of Doncaster Rovers.
Ryan and Louis Tomlinson’s protracted takeover is expected to be officially announced at a press conference in London this afternoon after the deal was brokered earlier this week.
The takeover has somewhat shunted towards the finish line over the last fortnight, after One Direction star Tomlinson’s management intervened in order to nail down the 22-year-old’s image rights.
When we went to print last night, the deal was still to be officially confirmed.
However, Ryan has told The Star that he is already busy planning and preparing for his return to the Rovers boardroom.
“This has been in the offing for some time, and Louis and I are absolutely delighted that everything has been agreed,” said Ryan, who resigned as chairman last November.
“Now it’s full steam ahead.
“Hopefully this can be the start of another electric period for Doncaster Rovers, like the one we enjoyed between 2003 and 2009.
“Our goal is to put together a squad of players that can get out of League One at the first time of asking, like we did last time. Paul Dickov has his targets.”
