Paul Dickov says he is not currently considering signing a replacement for Paul Keegan.

Dean Furman is set to continue in the midfield holding role which Keegan - sidelined following knee surgery - had made his own.

And the South African international is in the box seat to stay there with Dickov unwilling to sign an untried youngster and admitting ready-made replacements for the Irishman are thin on the ground.

“I thought Dean [Furmam] did well in there on Saturday,” said Dickov.

“He mopped up, kept it simple and got his tackles in.

“I thought he did really well last week at Gillingham as well when he went back there.

“It’s a difficult one.

“I know people are saying ‘why don’t you go out and replace Paul Keegan?’

“What Keegs does for the team, there’s very few players that can do that with what we’d be looking for.

“You can go and get a kid from a club quite easily but it’s a massive risk, especially in that position.

“You could get people who haven’t played any first team games to come in but we don’t feel we need that at the minute.

“To get an experienced version of Paul Keegan is very hard. Nobody wants to let them [that sort of player] out of the club that they’re in.”

The Football League’s loan window closes on March 26.
