Doncaster Rovers: No top six talk for Nathan Tyson

Doncaster Rovers are only focused on the immediate goal of moving away from League One’s relegation zone according to striker Nathan Tyson.

Back to back victories have raised hopes Rovers can reignite a push for a top six finish with two thirds of the campaign remaining under new boss Darren Ferguson.

But Tyson insists there is plenty of work to be done before any talk of the play-offs.

“I think we need to take it one step at a time and be real about where we are in the league,” Tyson said.

“We’ve got to build some momentum and stay unbeaten for as long as we possibly can.

“As far as I’m concerned, we can’t talk about anything else until we get ourselves out of the sticky situation we’re in at the moment.”

Rovers have a chance to put some daylight between themselves and fellow strugglers Blackpool, who host them this afternoon.

The Tangerines are a former club of Tyson, though he admits his stay on the coast was a short one.

He said: “I didn’t really get a chance there and I never started a game for them.

“It was tough for me, trying to get into the team. I ended up going out on loan.

“It was a very short career and I’m still waiting for the answer on why that was. I don’t know what happened.

“It’s a shame to see what’s happened there because I did meet some very nice people in terms of fans.

“I’m just focused on going there and winning the game.

“I don’t think there’s any animosity because I wasn’t there long enough but I’ll probably still get a few boos.

“I don’t care really. I just want to do my job and come home with the three points.

“After losing the last two away games, we’ve got a point to prove and we need to start building some momentum.”

Craig Alcock – signed on loan from Sheffield United this week – is in line for his Rovers debut while Keshi Anderson is pushing for a starting berth.

Cameron Stewart could make his return to the squad after shaking off an injury but Paul Keegan, Richard Chaplow and Gary MacKenzie have all been ruled out.
