A statement on Rovers' official website said: "Doncaster Rovers can announce that DRFC and striker Nathan Tyson have exercised a clause in Nathan’s contract that will see him depart the Keepmoat Stadium with immediate effect.

"The club would like to thank Nathan for his efforts both on and off the pitch and wish him every success in the future."

Tyson appeared to be on the way out of Rovers after recent talks with Darren Ferguson ended with a verbal agreement to activate a relegation release clause in his contract. The 34-year-old striker had until the end of today to exercise that clause.

He only signed a new one-year contract extension in March but lost his place in the team to loan man Gary McSheffrey - who Rovers are set to sign on a permanent deal - during the final straight of the season.
