Mitchell Lund hopes to prove to Paul Dickov he can be his right-hand man.

The 18-year-old, who penned a new two-year deal last week, reports back to pre-season training today as the only out and out right back on Rovers’ books.

Dickov has made no secret of the fact that he wants to strengthen in both full back positions before the start of the new season.

However Lund, who impressed in a run of four senior outings at the end of last season, will not be shy of putting his case forward during pre-season preparations. “The experience of last season has boosted my confidence quite a bit,” Lund told Rovers’ official website.

“I thought I did well and proved to people what I can do and hopefully I can do that again this season.

“Hopefully this season I can get a few starts.

“I need to come in and show what I am made of and work hard in pre-season and see what comes out of it.”

Leeds born Lund joined Rovers’ academy at the age of 12 and signed his first full professional contract with the club last summer.

He made his first ever senior start against Burton Albion in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy but really caught the eye at the end of last season when he was handed a chance to impress in League One.

The teenager grabbed the opportunity with both hands, showing a composure beyond his years and an old-school passion for defending.

A new deal was never in doubt.

“I’m absolutely buzzing, my family are so proud and I am proud and really pleased,” said Lund.

“It’s great to sign.

“This contract is some really good feedback and hopefully I can continue to get a few more games now.

“It was great to make my debut last year, it is a feeling that is hard to explain.

“It is something that everybody wants to do and a childhood dream which has come true for me.”
