Marquis joined Rovers last week on a two-year deal and has set his sights on regular game time after a stop-start career with boyhood club Millwall.

Achieving that would likely see him paired with Williams, who netted 16 goals in League One last term.

“He’s a very good player who has scored a lot of goals over the last few years,” Marquis said of Williams.

“It’ll probably come as a bit of a surprise to him that he’s playing at this level.

“It’s great for us to play together and hopefully score a lot of goals to help get Doncaster promoted.

“Whoever is playing up front, we’ve got to make sure we’re scoring the goals or helping each other do it.

“If the team can keep them out at the other end as well, we’ll hopefully win enough games to win promotion.”

Marquis has scored 30 goals over 157 career appearances but struggled for regular appearances at Millwall and over several loan spells.

His best spell came with League Two champions Northampton Town last term where he scored six goals in 15 appearances.

And he is confident he has the abilities to score regularly for Rovers next season.

He said: “I’m quite a tall centre forward who works hard, hold the ball up and brings others into the game.

“It’s a bit of everything really, as well as scoring goals.

“I feel, especially at this level and the level above, I’ve proven I can score goals.

“Now I want to do that at Doncaster.”

As well as signing Marquis, Rovers also boosted their forward ranks with the arrival of Gary McSheffrey.
