Conor Grant has an extra special reason to love the FA Cup.

And the on-loan Everton midfielder cannot wait for another taste of it on Sunday in the colours of Doncaster Rovers.

Grant, who this week extended his loan at Rovers until January 2, was born in 1995 - the same year his beloved Everton beat Manchester United at Wembley to lift the famous trophy.

Speaking prior to this weekend’s second round tie at Cambridge United, Grant revealed his personal connection with the FA Cup. And the 20-year-old insists the competition retains its magic among his generation.

“I didn’t obviously see the game but I was born in 1995, and that year a certain team won it - Everton,” said Grant, sporting a big grin.

“I love it.

“I know people say things like ‘the magic of the FA Cup’ and ‘it’s a great cup’ but it actually is.

“There’s been a buzz around the training ground this week and everyone’s been up for it.

“The last game [against Stalybridge Celtic] was my first experience of playing in it and I just can’t wait for Sunday.”

Grant’s introduction has coincided with a run that has seen Rovers lose just once in their last six games.

On his loan extension, Grant said: “I’m delighted. It has gone well so far and I just want to keep on helping the team to do well and to keep on progressing.

“It’s a good experience for me.

“Last year I went to Scotland and this is a different type of football. All of it’s a massive learning curve for me, which I need. I need to show I can adapt and perform at this level - and I hope I’m doing that.”

Fit-again Mitchell Lund and Paul Keegan are now available again.
