Doncaster Rovers: ‘I am ruthless’ - Jones

Rob Jones has promised to be “ruthless” in his decision-making for however much longer he remains in charge of Doncaster Rovers.

Jones wielded the axe this week after lambasting his team’s performance at Sheffield United - dropping his roommate Paul Keegan, Cameron Stewart and Aaron Taylor-Sinclair for the visit of Swindon.

Rovers’ caretaker boss was buoyed by what he saw against the Robins despite conceding a last gasp equaliser.

But, ahead of tomorrow’s South Yorkshire derby at home to Barnsley, he has warned his players he will continue to be ruthless in his selection.

“It’s become more difficult to pick a starting eleven and to pick a bench even,” Jones said.

“If you look at the bench there’s not many young kids on there any more. There’s experience and a wealth of intelligence on there.

“So more and more, as the days go by, it becomes more and more difficult.

“Ruthless? Yes, I am ruthless.

“Keegs is my roomie when we go on trips and it was difficult to leave him out.

“But I have to be ruthless and I have to be the one that makes these decisions.

“That’s the position I’ve put myself in and I won’t shy away from that fact.”

He added: “It has been a massive learning curve for me, these last three weeks.

“It has been fun, it has been stressful, it has been passionate, it has been exciting.

“But I have to make sure that when I send them out, I feel confident in how I’m sending them out in terms of the formation and philosophy.

“Every game so far I’ve felt comfortable with what I’ve sent out.

“The lads are doing their best to carry out what I want, and they’re doing their best to show they are passionate about the football club.”
