Paul Dickov is looking to add a minimum of eight senior players to his Doncaster Rovers squad for next season.

The club were left with ten contracted senior players plus three recent academy graduates following the end of last season.

Club captain Rob Jones has agreed a new one-year deal while Rovers last week completed the signing of goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann.

Dickov is keen to reach the 20 mark for senior players as he plots a push for promotion to the Championship next season.

“We’ve released a lot of players and I think we need around about eight senior players coming in, possibly more,” Dickov said.

“The size of the squad, the quality of the squad and the mentality of the squad all has to be bang on for us next season.”

After securing a senior goalkeeper, signing a new striker is top of Dickov’s priority list with an experienced target man figure his preference.

The departure of Reece Wabara has left Rovers short on numbers in defence. Someone similarly versatile to the former Manchester City youngster - who could play across the back four – is seen as the ideal preference for Dickov, who is understood to have shown an interest in Scott Wiseman, a recent signing for Scunthorpe United.

Despite the retention of Rob Jones, Dickov is known to be eager to sign another centre half, preferably one that could add pace to his defence.

Central midfield is another area Rovers will be looking to add a body following the departure of Dean Furman while the club are lighter on wingers following Kyle Bennett’s decision to join Portsmouth but a new wide man is a lower priority.
