Delighted Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov hailed the heroic return of match-winner Rob Jones.

Experienced centre-back Jones bagged his first goal since August 2013 to guide a resurgent Rovers to their first win in four games.

And Jones’ goal was extra special with it being it his first game back in a Rovers’ shirt for seven months.

“Rob Jones was absolutely outstanding,” said Dickov, delighted with his side’s first League One win for nearly a month.

“I’m buzzing for him, especially for him to get his goal. It’s great to have him back.

“I said to the players afterwards that was I really pleased, that was an all-round performance.

“We created some good chances and could have probably scored more, but it was important to win.”

Jones has been missing through injury for much of this season, not featuring for the first team since the 3-0 defeat at Bristol City in September.

Rovers climbed one place to 12th in the table.

Mathematically Dickov’s side can still sneak into the play-offs with four games remaining and ten points off the pace, but it now looks a very tall order.

Perhaps surprisingly, Jones’ last goal came in a 3-1 defeat to Blackpool back at the start of the 2013-14 season. But having played just six games before last night’s match, the 35-year-old at last has something to smile about after arguably the toughest season of his career.
