Paul Dickov insists he has seen a real determination from his players to not allow a repeat of their Port Vale horror show.

Rovers are back on the road today for the first time since their woeful 3-0 defeat at Vale Park as they head to Gillingham.

And the Rovers boss is confident his players will not capitulate in such a manner again after witnessing their reaction.

“After the Port Vale game there was a real determination about the boys not to let it happen again,” Dickov told the Star.

“They are a really close-knit group, really working hard for each other and when you do that it gives you a chance of winning games.”

Dickov looks on Rovers’ start to the campaign as positive despite only picking up their first league win last weekend against Fleetwood Town.

And he says confidence levels are on the up.

“Getting the first goal help us massively, it really settled us down,” he said.

“The performance over the first 90 minutes against Ipswich in the cup really gave the boys confidence.

“And the lads are really confident and bullish at the minute going to Gillingham.

“Apart from the Port Vale game, every game we’ve played we’ve been in it.

“Clean sheets have been a massive factor in that. If you take away the goal we gave Bury in that first game, we’ve kept four clean sheets out of five league games.

“It’s about taking your chances at the right time and that’s what we did against Fleetwood.

“We got our noses in front, scored quickly and it settled everybody down.”

Paul Keegan and Dany N’Guessan are both set to feature in their first league squads of the season after recovering from knee and foot issues respectively.
